What’s Happening…
Information discussed during classroom guidance is aimed at being age appropriate and encourages students to be proactive and make good choices. As always students are expected to be respectful, responsible and resourceful. In addition, classroom guidance lessons take a look at Win-Win solutions to problems when they arise. This month students have talked about making new friends and working out problems with friends.
As the spring semester begins classroom guidance lessons will be shifting towards setting goals, making changes and achieving success in both academic and personal areas. Perseverance in the face of challenges along with using the 7 Habits are considered in encouraging students to consider the possibilities and planning for success.
Students are also beginning to look ahead at Careers and Jobs in their future; People we know, the jobs/careers they have and what skills are important to begin preparing for the future world of work. By planning ahead they will be able to choose jobs they love and find fulfilling.
Communication either in person, through personal notes, email or by phone will maintain a positive connection and improve the quality of education your child attains throughout the year. Your dedication to helping your child do their best everyday truly makes a difference. Please continue to make regular, consistent sleep habits part of your everyday routine so your child is well rested and alert. Encourage your child to do their best every day to help them reach their fullest potential. Please let your child's classroom teacher know as soon as possible if your child will not be in attendance each day scheduled for MAP. Early communication will assist in coordinating the rescheduling of any required state assessments.
Watch D.O.G.S. are off to a great start at Helena and John Glenn Elementary. This year Helena has scheduled Watch D.O.G.S. Monday through Friday in an effort to be more flexible and have more opportunities available. This has provided a great opportunity for Dads to be active with our school. At John Glenn we are scheduling Watch DOG volunteers on Tues., Wed., and Frii. If you were not been able to participate and would like more information please call. A HUGE Thank You to all the Dad's who helped make the Watch D.O.G. experience such a positive experience for our elementary students. We'd love to have you join us next spring and we'll be planning ways to continue to provide opportunities again next fall.
With the New Year rapidly approaching this is a perfect time to look at what changes you might want to make in your own life. Consider all possibilities but then write down specific goals. Be SMART. Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Time Limited goals are much easier to track and measure success. Remember children often model their parent's behaviors so by setting your own goals and discussing your progress with your children will help them learn to do the same.
Contact the school counselor, classroom teacher or building principal if you have questions or concerns. We are all on the same team with your child’s success the overall goal. Have a great year!
